DJJS Salt Lake Valley Sewer Upgrade
This was an existing youth corrections facility that utilized a vacuum sewer system that has been having issues for a long time. The scope of the project included removing the vacuum system and installing a gravity sewer system. One of the biggest challenges of this project was the phasing, because the building remained occupied during construction and there were varying levels of security in each of the 10 pods and administration area. There were 3 total phases plus a separate project that included a remodel of 3 of the pods that had to be coordinated and tied into the new exterior system. These were under construction at the same time and had similar design teams. The sewer needed to be routed out of the building differently to hit the invert of the existing sewer line and an inline grinder was installed. Between the 2 projects the sewer upgrades were modified in roughly 37,000 sf of building. WHW was the AE Prime designer with an architect, electrical and civil engineering team.
