Steam Piping Replacement
Brockbank Junior High was built in 1948 and was served heating from a steam boiler system with perimeter convectors. In 1992, gas fired, DX cooled roof top units were added to provide heating and cooling to each of the interior classrooms. The steam boiler was replaced in 2003 but most of the steam and condensate piping was original to the building. The piping was routed through steam tunnels mainly along the perimeter of the building. Due to the addition of the roof top units, the boiler system and the piping was oversized and severely corroded. This project involved removing and replacing all the steam piping in the school and reconnecting to the existing convectors in multiple locations including the restrooms and corridors. WHW also provided new steam coils in the Auditorium and Cafeteria Air Handling Units, and new control valves for the convectors. In addition to the steam and condensate, we removed and replaced all the domestic water piping in the building as well as many of the plumbing fixtures that were old and damaged.
