Utah Schools for The Deaf and Blind
WHW Engineering has done several projects for the Utah Schools for the Deaf and Blind. This has included remodels at their older Salt Lake Facility, the design of their new Salt Lake Facility, and the design of their new Springville Facility. These projects are unique because they share several aspects in common with a traditional K-12 school, but they also have several unique components that need to be customized for these special needs. For example, in the classroom wings for deaf students, they prefer to have sensor operated faucets. The reasoning is that the deaf students cannot hear if they leave the faucet running. However, in the classroom wings for the blind students they prefer to have manual faucets. These are easier for them to find with their hands and provide teaching opportunities for the hot and cold faucets. This is just one example of unique needs to show that WHW Engineering will not apply a “cookie cutter” approach to any project. We want to find out what the desires are for each project and design the best way to meet those needs for the owner.
